Contemplation · Observation · Reinterpretation
“Landscape is not information, nor literalness, nor terrain. Landscape is invention, transformation and creation, the product of the artist's emotions and sensations. Its truth does not lie in the obvious, but in metaphor, a truth different from the immediate. Landscape begins outside, but it is built within. It is a deeply personal, meditative work. It is the artist's psyche that sees, that endures, and that describes the place.”
From old negatives to recent digital captures: a years-long search to evoke what is felt, not only what is seen, when contemplating a landscape, whether natural or shaped by human hands. The tripod, the deliberate metering, the contrast filter, the cable release, the viewfinder. Then come the darkroom rituals: the smell of chemicals, everything prepared in anticipation of a healing potion, the sacred paper, the dodging and burning, the split-grade printing, the selenium bath. Music playing in the background.
Hours slipping by unnoticed. Calm throughout. In praise of slowness.

Landscape begins outside, but it is built within.

What is felt, not only what is seen.
